Dear Mr. Mayor,m.seo-9.cn
I am writing about the air pollution in Nanchang, which caused damage to the environment and even harm to our health.
There are two main factors contributing to the problem of air pollution. On the one hand, industrial pollution account for the problem to a major extent. On the other hand, the carbon produced by vehicles, especially private cars, is also a reason that should not be ignored.
I would like to make the following proposals to solve this problem. Firstly, it is necessary to strengthen the management on the factories in our city and control the waste gases let off by them. Secondly, we should develop the public transportation system, so that the citizens can depend less on their own cars. Last but not least, planting more trees is always a good choice to “clean” our city.
In short, it is our responsibility to protect the city. I would be grateful if the government could take some steps to solve this environmental problem.
Yours sincerely,
Alex

聽力材料
(Text1)
M: I’d like to drive to the concert, but my brother will use the car tonight.
W: Who needs a car? We can take the subway if we go a little earlier.
 (Text2)
M: I want a single room with a bath, what’s the rate?
W: It’s 25 dollars a day. Your room number is 213. It is on the second floor. Here is your key.
(Text 3)
M: You’d better take your coat with you. It looks good now but it’s going to snow later in the afternoon.
W: You may be right. Thank you for mentioning this.
 (Text4)
W: Did you get some gas for the car?
M: Oh, I forgot. We’d better get some on our way back. Shall we get something to eat now?
W: I’m not hungry now. Let’s go for a mid-night dinner after the play. Let’s find our seats first.
(Text5)
M: How much is the tie?
W: It’s 30 dollars.
M: Can you give me a discount?
W: Your 20% discount is already included, sir. This is our sales period.
 (Text6)
W: Which flat do you prefer?
M: Well, the modern one is really nice, but the older one is much bigger.
W: Yes. In the older one we could have a study for our daughter.
M: Yes. I like the furniture in the modern one, though. It’s in really good condition.

M: Susan, please pass me a copy of China Daily.
W: Here you are.
M: I want to find what’s on this weekend.
W: Is there anything good on?
M: The Beijing Opera is showing on Saturday evening. Do you like Beijing Opera?
W: Oh, yes. Very much. When and where will it be?
M: At 7:30 in Beihai Park.
W: Let’s go and see it, OK?
M: Good idea!
(Text8)
W: What should we do this weekend? How about going to Scotland?
M: Scotland? You’re crazy. It may be a small country by some standards, but we can’t go all the way
there just for one weekend.
W: Oh, all right, it was a joke. But let’s get out of London. I need some fresh air.
M: I agree. I have to go shopping on Saturday morning. But let’s not waste the afternoon. Where should
we go?
W: We could go to Hampstead.
M: Good idea. We can go by bus, can’t we? And there are some lovely old houses and little streets to
look at, and…
W: And there are hundreds of cafés and restaurants in the villages. After walking around, we’ll both be
hungry and thirsty.
(Text9)
W: This park is so beautiful, Jack. Can we come here again tomorrow?
M: I’m afraid we can’t. Remember that tonight we are going to visit my mother’s relatives. They live in the north of the city, and we are going to drive there. They’re very kind.
W: I can’t wait to meet them. Do they speak English?
M: A little, but we’ll have no trouble communicating. One of my cousins teaches English in high school. And she can also speak a little French.
W: That’s a relief. You know, I can hardly speak Dutch.
M: Take it easy, Sweetie. Oh, tomorrow morning we will go to an art gallery with them and then go shopping in the afternoon, and the next day there’s a concert in the park.
W: Really? I’m looking forward to it.m.seo-9.cn
(Text10)
Well I’d love to share with you something about my life. I was a director of labor relations for a big company ten years ago. And I should have been happy. I had everything that I thought I wanted. But going into work everyday took away a bit of myself. Until finally I stopped and said, “ Where is that lively college girl who used to read tens of books and do fun things? Where is she?” I knew I have to look for her. Then one day, walking through a children’s bookstore, it hit me. I loved these books. The richness of the pictures, the power of these words. I gathered an armful of books and said, “ this is what I want to do.” And since then, I have treated writing like a full time job. I wrote over twenty stories in the next year. And most of them got sent back with letters saying they were not good enough. But I didn’t give up. I think it’s because of that love that I have been able not to just write one book but nine books in the last ten years. When I worked in the company, I worked sixty-hour weeks because I had to. Now I work sixty-hour weeks because I love it. If I hadn’t made that choice to take a chance to do something that really appeals to me . I don’t think I could have lived with myself.
