Dear Chris,
I’d like to invite you to join us for a visit to the New Year’s bazaar. Organized by the Students’ Union, it is a charity sale aimed at raising money for the homeless /the elderly of the nursing home/children at remote villages.
The market will be open on the school playground at 9 o’clock on February 1st . There will be a great variety of paintings and sculptures on sale. In addition, you will probably have a chance to admire and purchase some traditional handcrafts which are all provided by my schoolmates, like Chinese knots and paper cuttings.
It is expected to be an enjoyable experience as well as a kind act. I sincerely hope that you will come over if you can spare some time.
I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: Hey, what’s your dog’s name?
W: Snowball.
M: Well, he seems to like running around a lot. Is he well-behaved?
W: Oh, yes, he is. When he was a puppy, he used to bark loudly and chew my father’s shoes, but he’s OK now.
M: Uh, perhaps the last thing I would like is a dog.
W: Why? Dogs are good guards and the best friends of human beings.
M: I think they’re fierce and frightening.
W: Then what would you prefer, a cat?
M: Maybe a rabbit.
Text 7

M: No. She doesn’t like them. I don’t want to take the risk.
W: Then what about this ring?
M: It’s beautiful. But 10,000 yuan? That’s too much.
W: Oh, you don’t have to pay that much. It’s 20% off today.
M: Good. I’ll take it.

M: About the afternoon match?
W: No, it’s a message from Daily English. I get it every morning.
M: Is that from a friend of yours?
W: No, I subscribe to it.
M: Not bad. But actually you can get more from Wechat. There are many resources. I read news from it every evening.
W: Really? Tell me how to do it.
M: First you have to download the App.…
Text 9
W: So, do you still think your university life wonderful?
M: Yes, though I did feel uncomfortable when I first arrived. The new surroundings made me feel nervous. But I adjusted myself and got used to it quickly.

W: Did you feel stressed? In a survey, 75% of students said they suffered from high-level stress. Among them, 20% will seek for help. Still, 9% feel stressed constantly.

Text 10
This may be Prince Harry’s first trip to Mildmay Hospital.
Mildmay began in the mid-19th century. It provided care during a cholera outbreak in London but was closed down in 1982. In 1988, it reopened for people dying of AIDS-related illnesses.
Harry was told stories of his mother Diana making private visits to Mildmay. The Prince followed in his mother’s footsteps holding hands and joking with the patients. He put his signature in a visitors’ book. Cameras weren’t allowed to film Prince Harry meeting patients, but he was introduced to workers who met his mother.
Harry has helped a lot of AIDS patients in Africa. The hospital’s director, Dr Ross White said, “Prince Harry’s visit is special because the Princess of Wales, his mother, showed great support for the Mildmay. We hope it helps increase knowledge of HIV and our work.”
