Dear Mr. Wilson,

On behalf of the students of our class, I’d like to tell you that all of us are enjoyful at your class, which is lively and interesting. I want to say we are lucky and we are grateful to you for your kindness and devotion to English teaching. In addition, you are so knowlegeable that we can learn a lot from you. Thanks to your patience, we’ve built up our confidence in English study.

To be honest, some of us are still weak in English and I hope you can pay more attention to them and help them out. By the way, could you please speak a little slower at class so that we can get a better understanding?

    Best wishes!

Yours,

Li Hua

M: I like neither of them. I prefer table tennis.

W: You should keep away from the grass. It’s not allowed.

M: I'm sorry, Madam. I caught a cold and had to stay in bed all day yesterday.

W: But I saw you playing in the park yesterday afternoon.

Text 6

M: Jane, come over and look at the river. It’s so dirty.

W: So it is. Over the years, there have been a lot of changes in agriculture and industry. Unluckily, few people know what such development costs.

M: I used to come to this river to swim as a child. At that time, the water was very clean and there were a lot of fish in it.

W: Factories pour a lot of waste into the river, and farmers throw rubbish into it. No powerful measures are taken to prevent all of these. As time goes on, the water is getting more and more polluted.

Text 7

W: No, he’s out at the moment. Who is that speaking please?

M: John, his football teammate. May I leave a message?

W: Ross, Christmas is coming soon. What presents shall we buy for the children?

M: What about a bike for John? He's been asking for one for a long time.

W: But I don't think he's old enough to ride a bike to school. Let's buy him a football instead, all right ?

M: OK. What shall we buy for Liz?

W: I think an MP3 player suits her fine. She likes music very much.

M: Quite right. When shall we go and buy the presents?

M: Well, tomorrow is Sunday. Let's go shopping tomorrow afternoon after we see the film.

W: But we mustn't let the children know about the presents before Christmas.

M: I'm sure they won't know. I’ll take them to the McDonalds’ while you are doing the shopping.

Text 9

W: Mr. Black, may I ask you some questions about your farm?

M: Sure. What would you like to know?

W: Could you tell us how many kinds of vegetables you grow on your farm?

M: Well, we used to grow four kinds of vegetables, but this year we grew six kinds, and we want to grow two more kinds next year.

W: What is the hardest job on the farm?

M: Picking the vegetables. Usually I have to hire some workers to help me.

W: How many workers do you usually hire?

M: Well, my farm is not very big. So I usually get six or seven workers to work for me.

W: How long do they usually work every day?

M: That depends. They usually work from five to eight hours a day.

W: How do you pay them?

M: Well, they are paid according to the time they work here.

W: Would it be OK to tell us how much you earn every year?

M: Well, a few years ago I earned about 10,000 dollars a year and now I earn a little more than that.

Text 10

W: When you come to Guiyang, don't forget to visit the snack street. It is in the Flower Stream District, almost in the centre of the city. After you get off the train, you can take the No. 204 bus. It will take you there in twenty minutes. If you come to the city by air, you may find the street is a bit far from the airport, but all the taxi drivers can take you there within half an hour. There are more than 300 snack bars in the street. In most of the bars, you can enjoy different kinds of popular local foods. There are also a small number of snack bars owned by people from other places of China or even from other countries. In these bars, you can enjoy foods that are popular in other places of China or in the world. The best time to go to the street is after 7 in the evening. All the bars will be open all through the night. You can buy a little food here and a little more there. But remember not to eat too much at a time, or you'll find it difficult to fall asleep at night.
