M：Er, I burnt it the other day.

W：Oh no! Not on the iron again!

M：No, actually I was only making bread! I burnt myself on the machine!

W：What do you mean? You play it quite well, much better than I do.

W：I need to make a dish for Mara’s party on Friday. I also have my sister’s graduation to attend on Saturday. I feel stressed out.

M：Don’t forget we’re also meeting my mom in the newly opened restaurant for lunch on Sunday.

W：Did you go anywhere during the summer vacation?

M：Yes. I went back to my hometown with my mother. It has changed a lot since I left at the age of 5 and I could hardly tell where anything was after thirty years.

W：Sure. Do you need me to check the spelling for you?

M：No. I need some assistance on the last paragraph. I haven’t started that part yet.

M：Are you fond of sending text messages?

W：Of course. It’s too convenient and the cost is much lower than that of a call.

M：It really has advantages. But Italian doctors have a new finding about it.

W：Oh, what is it?

M：They say extra text messaging may be bad for you, or at least for your fingers.

W：That sounds strange. How did they make the conclusion?

M：There is a real story about a 13-year-old girl in a northern Italian city. She needed treatment in hospital after typing at least 100 short messages a day. She was ordered to rest her hands.

W：That’s terrible. We’d better have a limit about short message services.

M：I’d like the New York Steak.

W：How would you like it? Rare, medium or well done?

M：Medium, please!

W：Would you like a baked potato or French fries?

M：Baked potato, with some sour cream on the side.

W：Anything to drink? Wine, milk tea, or Coke?

M：I’ll have a glass of red wine.

W：Ok, just wait a moment and I’ll get it for you… Here’s your order. That comes to eighty dollars.

M：Can I pay the bill with my credit card?

W：No, we don’t accept it. You’ll have to pay in cash.

M：What about a traveler’s cheque?

W：Yes, sir. That will be all right.
